Atypical Genital Naevi

In patients with a history of atypical naevus syndrome there may be lesions on the vulva as part of this. However, a specific entity of atypical genital naevi can occur in young women (Figure 15.10). These lesions have no increased risk of malignancy but are often misdiagnosed if the pathologist is unaware of the site and the clinical history. The histological features of atypical genital naevi can cause great difficulty in diagnosis and an expert dermatopathological opinion is vital, together with good clinico‐pathological correlation, to differentiate these lesions from melanoma.
